Outsource Marketing/User Strategies Group Project Wins 2009 Tekne Award

tekne award imageCareerOneStop.org, a career information website serving the needs of job seekers and employers, was recently honored by The Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) with a Tekne Award, recognizing innovative tech companies and business leaders. Outsource Marketing in partnership with User Strategies Group played a key role on the CareerOneStop site redevelopment team, supporting the effort with user research (online surveys, bulletin board focus groups and an ethnographic study of key users), information design and usability testing.

CareerOneStop.org is managed by the state of Minnesota and funded by the U.S.
Department of Labor. The site offers a greater breadth of data than any other public or private site and serves more than 24 million unique visitors each year.

Led by program director Mike Ellsworth, the CareerOneStop.org team integrated a new Web content management system, a search engine, and a new information architecture and taxonomy. “Understanding who our users are, what they expect from the site and whether our new design was in fact usable, was critical to the success of the project,” said Mike Ellsworth. “The user research from Outsource Marketing and User Strategies Group provided a basis on which we were able to make sound technology decisions.”

CareerOneStop.org won the award for the category IT Software and Hardware, Communications and Infrastructure for an established organization. Other finalists in this category included Imation and QLogic Corporation.
